None of the half-measuers I've tried has been great at getting the pH down. Haskap sounds like a good potential replacement! They can keep the Crimson Passion and Carmine Jewel dwarf cherries from Saskatchewan company...brossanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-883722148004616014.post-39813432524537941102014-02-08T21:59:40.860-08:002014-02-08T21:59:40.860-08:00Wow what a cool and big time project. it is amazi...Wow what a cool and big time project. it is amazing you and Becky get so much done so well, and raise kids and have a job. We'll see how much gardening actually happens when it comes time to digging holes and pulling weeds rather than making fancy drawings!

Corn is a good idea for sucking up nutrients. I did put some corn in the box last year, but it was very late, like July I think, after the garlic came out of there. It didn't seem to do very well, but maybe it was because it was planted so late. Otherwise I can't think what is wrong up there. Nematodes or something?..

Eventually we hope to put in more gardening area in back, but I think we have enough to keep our hands full for a couple years. The areas behind the new retaining walls are essentially big raised beds with new soil as deep as it would be in a traditional raised bed.

But if we ever turn the rest of the lawn into garden we'll have to think about whether to do raised or not. The soil quality is pretty poor as seen by the test, so there would be a benefit of putting good soil in a raised bed.Hollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05413198575104625457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-883722148004616014.post-6282409220747007452014-02-08T10:52:39.434-08:002014-02-08T10:52:39.434-08:00Wow. Why not install planter boxes with fresh soil in the back?Alexi Arangohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815595069429593678noreply@blogger.com
